CHRISTIAN DEATH
Christian Death est un des groupes les plus populaire du rock gothique , crée au debut des années 80 à Los angeles par le chanteur Rozz Williams (californien né Roger Alan Painter ) ,il se compose au debut de Rikk Agnew à la guitare, James McGearty à la basse et George Belanger comme batteur .En 1982 « Only Theatre Of Pain » est le titre de leur premier album ,dans lequel Ron Athey et Eva Ortiz font les choeurs .
Christian Death se produit sur scene dans un contexte assez théatral et se basant principalement sur le sentiment anti religieux ,cela n'est pas sans deplaire à un public gothique mais attire les colères de groupes religieux Chrétiens qui détruisent leur albums à la sortie des concerts.
Fin 1982 le groupe étant séparé suite à diverses disputes , Rozz Williams recrute les membres de « Pompeii 99 » (qui avait été programé pour une premiere partie) dans lequel on retrouve Valor Kand (guitare) , Gitane Demone (clavier et choeurs ) et David Glass (batterie).Ils s'installent en Europe à partir de 1983 et enregistrent « Catastrophe Ballet ».
L'album « Ashes » est enregistré aux Etats Unis et sortira en 1985 ,peu après Rozz Williams quitte le groupe, il desire se lancer dans une musique plus experimentale et dira à Gitane Demone qu'il n'en peut plus .Valor décide de continuer et de garder le nom de Christian Death .
Divers labels européens sortiront les prochains albums du groupe qui prend une certaine tournure et continue à travers ses textes et représentations sa rage contre l'Eglise. En 1989 Gitane Demone quittera le groupe et se lancera dans une carrière solo avec un style jazz-cabaret produisant une image sombre et sadomasochiste.
Entre temps Rozz Williams qui veut recommencer à faire de la musique essaye de récupérer les droits sur le nom de Christian Death, mais un peu tard .Avec Eva O devenue sa femme , ils forment Shadow Project en 1987 puis Daucus Karota , il reprendra le nom de Christian Death le temps de divers enregistrements et notement le live « Iconologia » en 1993 avec Rikk Agnew et George Belanger membres de la premiere heure .
Sans explication de sa part Rozz Williams mit fin à ses jours le 1 avril 1998 , il avait 34 ans.
Valor quand à lui continue l'activité de l'autre formation ,il s'attire des ennuis avec la censure americaine en simulant sur scène la fornication avec la vierge Marie.
Le dernier album en date est "born again anti-christian" réalisé en 2000 avec Maitri .
