DARKTHRONE
DARKTHRONE est l'un des premiers groupes de Black metal norvégien et également l'un des plus influents. Dans ses débuts, le groupe était connu sous le nom de Black Death.
DARKTHRONE débute en tant que groupe de Death metal avec l'album Soulside Journey.
DARKTHRONE abandonne définitivement le Death metal avec la sortie du légendaire A Blaze In The Northern Sky en 1991. Délibérément maladroit, simpliste, et inscrutable, A Blaze In The Northern Sky illustre le poids du simple nihilisme en parodiant de vieux styles musicaux à travers une chorale sinistre où le chanteur délivre un flot incontrôlé de paroles, avec la musique qui suit. En contraste, les percussions de Fenriz sont très complexes. En 1994, DARKTHRONE sort un album qui fera date dans l'histoire du black metal : Transilvanian Hunger, toujours caractéristique du style DARKTHRONE, à savoir très mal enregistré. Mais c'est surtout une phrase au dos de l'album qui fera scandale : « Norsk Arisk Black Metal », qui signifie « Black Metal Norvégien et Aryen ». Cet album fait date et fait de darkthrone une des légendes emblématique du true black metal.
À la suite de Soulside Journey, DARKTHRONE est l'un des premiers groupes à faire usage de corpse paint, en hommage à Venom, groupe créateur de l'album Black Metal, à l'origine de la philosophie du genre, qui eux même utilisaient le corpse paint.
